Small business websites that get found, on Google and in AI

What a small business website needs to show up in Google and in AI assistants like ChatGPT, and how an AI website builder can get you there the same day.

People now find businesses two ways: by searching Google, and by asking an AI assistant. Both read your website. Both reward the same things: clear facts, stated plainly, in a page they can read without running any code. A small business website that does this well does not need to be large or expensive.

Say what you do in the first line

A visitor, a search engine and an AI assistant all want to know the same thing first: what is this business, where is it, and who is it for? Put that in the page's main heading and the sentence under it. A slogan can come second.

Facts beat adjectives

Assistants answer questions like who does same-day screen repair in Westlands, or which bakery near me does gluten-free birthday cakes. They can only recommend you if your site states the facts that answer them: your services, your prices or price ranges, your area, your hours and how to reach you. Award-winning and passionate answer nothing.

The pages most small businesses need

  • Home. What you do, for whom, where, and the one thing you want a visitor to do next.
  • Services or products, each with a short description and a price or a starting price. A page per main service gives search engines something specific to match.
  • About. Who is behind the business, how long you have done it, and proof: reviews, clients, photos of real work.
  • Contact. Address, area served, hours, phone, email and a map if people visit you.
  • Questions. The things customers ask every week, answered in their own words. This page is gold for AI assistants.

The technical basics

  • Text in the page, not inside images or loaded later by scripts, so crawlers see it on the first read.
  • A title and description for every page that say what that page is about.
  • Structured data that marks up your business name, address, opening hours and services, so search engines do not have to guess.
  • A sitemap that lists every page, submitted in Google Search Console.
  • Fast on a phone. Most of your visitors are on one.
  • One clear next step on every page: call, book, message or buy.

Being found in AI assistants

AI assistants build their answers from pages they can read and facts that agree with each other. Three habits help:

  • Say the same thing everywhere. Your business name, address, phone and hours should match on your website, your Google Business Profile and any directory you are listed in.
  • Answer questions directly. A page that says we deliver across Nairobi within 24 hours is easier to quote than one that says fast, reliable delivery.
  • Let them in. Some sites block AI crawlers by default. If you want to be recommended, check that yours does not.

If customers visit you in person, also claim your Google Business Profile. For a local business it is often the first thing people see, before your website.

Keep it current

A website with last year's prices does more harm than one with no prices at all, because it makes a promise you then have to walk back. The easiest way to keep it current is to keep your facts in one place and have the website read from it, rather than editing pages by hand whenever something changes.

A ten-minute check of your current site

  1. Search for your business name. Does your site come up, with a sensible title and description?
  2. Open it on your phone. Can you find your prices and how to contact you within a few seconds?
  3. Ask an AI assistant what your business does. Is the answer right, and where did it get it?
  4. Look for anything out of date: prices, hours, staff, the copyright year.

How Speek builds it

Say what you sell, or paste the site you have, and Mason builds a website from your Business Brain. You change it by saying what you want, and nothing goes live until you publish. Because the website, your posts and your emails all read the same facts, a price changed once is changed everywhere. Reach and the plans above build the site to be found on Google and in AI assistants.
